Hermit's Skeet

VIRTUAL CATHOLIC CHAPEL A Catholic Hermit, on prayer, silence, contemplation, contemplative prayer, discernment, etc.

About me

Blogger:
Name: Mary Kathryn
Come aside and pray for a while. You are never "lonely" when you "Are 'alone with the Alone'. The Avatar is my old cat, Persia. God So loves us He became man to live, die, and rise for us so we could live in joyous communion with Him and each other forever. A Catholic Christian "Hermit" is someone who loves the entire world, embracing them in the love of Christ through solitary prayer, silence, & penance for the salvation of all. Fully Vatican II, Mary Kathryn is a "consecrated lay hermit" in Vows before a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church, following a Benedictine Rule and spirituality. She's fiercely orthodox: "middle-of-the-road". Her MOTTO: "In Medias Res" "The Truth lies in the middle, between the extremes." Come, listen to the Word SPEAK in silence!

Stalking is a moral sin

Stalking is a SIN

“Vengence is MINE,
I will repay.”
says the Lord.

I am alarmed at the increase in stalking in the USA, and the increase in “justifications” used. It is most often thought a stalker is a crazed person rejected by a would be lover who follows them, calls them, hound them. This, sadly, is not true anymore.
Years ago I did a study and found, among the victims, a temporary U. S. Senator from Texas – the man who introduced what became the first US Federal Anti-Stalking Law in Congress – who had been (along with his wife) the victim of a stalker for 13 years -- the man would leave letters in their mail box, recordings on their answering machine, etc. The feeling of never being safe anywhere from this man, the helpless rage at the police who back then could do nothing until the man had actually physically hit or threatened them, probably shortened this Senator’s life. I know of a bishop who was hounded by a man eventually arrested (later convicted) sitting at the bishop's desk taking microfilm of confidential chancery documents in order to "get the goods" on some imagined sin by the diocese.  The stalker still thinks he was in the right.  With a conscience that warped, that stalker is dangerous.

Now there is stalking for all kinds of reasons from getting sellable photographs to getting the goods on someone we suspect.  "Getting even" isn't even seen as a sin by many, ignorant of the moral law.
Now stalking is a criminal felony at both State and Federal levels.

There is, in most legal jurisdictions in the USA, a law on the books that says: If someone dies during a felony or as a result of it, all who were involved are guilty of murder, even if there are other secondary causes. This also applies to stalking: if the tension caused by such stalking kills the person, all involved are guilty of murder. Before God, all involved are guilty of mortal sin. It doesn’t matter if they think they have a good reason – they are not the police; even the police need to have a legitimate reason or they can be convicted of violating civil rights "under the cover of law".

Say a man with a heart condition is held up, and the extra tension causes him to have a heart attack and die, all robbing the store would be guilty of murder even if they’d done nothing but point a gun at him and tell him to empty the register.

Stalking someone – deliberately hounding the person, doing things that would evoke fear – is a mortal sin, and a felony under criminal law in the United States. It drives up blood pressure, stresses out the victim – causing long term health problems, even life-threatening problems to those who are in poor health to begin with. It is a form of attempted murder.

There have been cases, lately, of private investigators, licensed PI’s, being convicted of stalking.   Bravo, many of them royally deserve this.

Christ was stalked, continually and mercilessly, by the Pharisees who were the legitimate authority of their day, but were using that authority illegitimately. The Police can sometime overstep the bounds.

What the victim of a stalker suffers is as much of a lifelong trauma, a during and post-traumatic stress, as the victims who walk away from a plane crash.

        “What you do to the
least of these,
My brothers and sisters,
that you do unto Me.”
